Nestled in the hills of Chikkamagaluru, this heritage villa is a celebration of vernacular design, blending traditional Karnataka architecture with reclaimed materials and intricate craftsmanship.
Set against breathtaking valley views, the design strategically frames the landscape through exquisitely carved antique window frames, transforming each opening into a living artwork. The house itself becomes a backdrop, allowing the intricate craftsmanship of reclaimed pillars, doors, and artifacts to take centre stage.
The living area is a warm, textural space where antique wooden furniture and an earthy material palette set the tone. A standout feature is a 16-foot-long reclaimed balcony railing, repurposed into a window that frames the valley views while creating intimate, cozy nooks.
The bedroom features a charming attic sleeping space, creating a cozy retreat elevated above the main level. Beautifully framed by reclaimed columns, the nooks add depth and character, enhancing the intimate scale of the space. Warm wood, soft textiles, and subtle lighting contribute to a serene atmosphere. The bathroom seamlessly merges indoor and outdoor elements, embracing nature as part of its design. Diffused light filters through glass-insert Mangalore tiles, casting a soft glow throughout the space. A generous layout accommodates lush greenery along a built-in seating area, transforming the bathroom into a private sanctuary.
The lime-plastered walls introduce a tactile contrast, their organic texture complementing the surrounding natural elements. This thoughtful integration of materials, light, and openness creates a sensory experience—one that feels both grounding and rejuvenating.
